In the Western hemisphere, a new way of cooking came about organically when African, European and Indigenous influences converged. People tried to cook the food of their homelands using new ingredients. Eventually cultures mixed, recipes evolved and ingredients moved back and forth across the oceans. This was the birth of American Creole, a cuisine as original as jazz. Creole food celebrates many cultures, nationalities and traditions. This convergence of cultures was the bedrock from which the Brasa design system originated.

Taking inspiration from southern jazz posters, and punk expressionist works of the 20th century, Brasa’s design system is a layered flavor bomb of love much like their handcrafted cuisine.

We wanted the visual language to feel like a piece of music. And just like music, cuisine is one of the beautiful patches on the complex quilt of American history. Both music and food can help bring us together to celebrate who we are... how we are the same, and how we are different.

Band Groupie.

On a bit of a personal note, I’ve been a loyal customer of Brasa for a number of years before having the pleasure of working with them. I’ve had pretty much everything on their extensive & delicious menu, had client lunches there and even took my parents out to dinner there when they visit. Needless to say that I was ecstatic when they reached out to collaborate.
